Kingston upon Hull, usually abbreviated toΒ Hull, is aΒ port cityΒ andΒ unitary authorityΒ in theΒ East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It lies upon theΒ River HullΒ at itsΒ confluenceΒ with theΒ Humber Estuary, 25 miles inland from the North Sea, 50 miles east of Leeds, 34 miles south-east of York and 54 miles north-east of Sheffield. With a population of 259,778, Hull is the fourth-largest city in the Yorkshire and the HumberΒ region.
The town of Wyke on Hull was founded late in the 12thΒ century by the monks ofΒ Meaux AbbeyΒ as a port from which to export their wool. RenamedΒ Kings-town upon HullΒ in 1299, Hull had been aΒ market town, military supply port,Β trading hub,Β fishing and whaling centre and industrial metropolis.Β Hull was an early theatre of battle in theΒ English Civil Wars. Its 18th-century Member of Parliament, William Wilberforce, took a prominent part in the abolition of theΒ slave trade in Britain.
After suffering heavy damage in the Second World War (the “Hull Blitz”), Hull weathered a period of post-industrial decline,Β doing poorly on measures of social deprivation, education and policing. In the early 21stΒ century spending boom before theΒ late 2000s recessionΒ the city saw large amounts of new retail, commercial, housing and public service construction spending.
Tourist attractions include The Hull People’s Memorial, the historic Old Town and Museum Quarter, marinaΒ andΒ The DeepΒ aquarium. Rugby league football teams include clubsΒ Hull F.C.Β andΒ Hull Kingston Rovers. The city’s association football clubs areΒ Hull CityΒ (EFL Championship) and non-league Hull United.
Our Relationship with Hull City Council
Due to our expertise within social work, we have a strong relationship with Hull City Council and have a good number of candidates working there including social workers and Team Managers. Due to this, we are signed up to receive all of their agency vacancies, allowing us to send across CVβs that we feel are most suitable. If a candidate appeals to the council, they will suggest an interview, and we will contact the social worker to help set this all up.
Weβll then aid our social worker with interview practice and technique, and boost their confidence so that they can use their strengths throughout the process.Β
Our support doesnβt end there, however. All of our social workers benefit from a dedicated consultant, who checks in with them to ensure and maintain job satisfaction and address any issues or concerns.
ββCanβt say enough positive things about Portman Recruitment! Well looked after, listened to, and supported. Go above and beyond to find the right role for you.ββ – Phil
