Cheshire East is a unitary authority whose borough council was established in April 2009. It is the 3rd largest unitary authority in the north-west, and 15th largest countrywide. It is made up of the former boroughs of Congleton, Macclesfield, and Crewe and Nantwich. It also includes towns and smaller settlements such as Alsager, Alderley Edge, Bollington, Handforth, Wilmslow and Holmes Chapel. Sandbach serves as the administrative headquarters for the Cheshire East Council. It is home to a population of 380,800. The Cheshire East Council is made up of 82 councillors in 52 wards.
